2007 Honda Shadow庐 VLX (VT600C) reviews?

I am thinking about getting a Motorcycle. I am going to take the MSF course in a week. I was wondering what people think of the Honda Shadow 600 for a first bike?I definitely want a cruiser. I am 6'1" tall if that matters. I asked a few dealers but all they try to do is talk you into a bigger bike so they can get the commission. I figured you guys could do a better job at getting me started.

thanks for all of the help.

I was just like you last summer. I took the MSF course and wanted as cheap a bike as possible but bought a Honda Shadow 750 (VT750DC). It has been a great bike for me. I am 6'2" and while it's not any too big, I fit on it pretty well. The problem you will run into is you will outgrow the 600 pretty fast. It might give you enough power but it only has a 4 speed gearbox and will rattle your teeth if you want to drive it on the highway or pretty much over 55 MPH. It is also pretty small. You may save about $1000 now, but it will cost more in the long run when you need to upgrade. My 750 has good power and can cruise the highway with any big bike. I've talked to many guys that swear by these and have ridden them their whole life.

That really is unbiased advice even though I have a 2006 Shadow 750 that I am selling for less than what you could get that VLX600 for.
If you are 6'1" the 600 will really be to little for you and even if it not, you will want more power after a few months of riding. I would go with anything 1100-1500cc's. This will be light enough to learn to ride (most are around 700-850lbs) and will give you enough power to get down the road.............lastly take your time and get what feels right for you and BE CAREFUL OUT THERE

I've got a 1995 VLX 600, and I've had it for about 8 years. The benefit of the newer model VLX is that they went back to a single carb, rather than the dual-carb set-up the earlier (pre-1999) models have.

It's a decent bike, and there are many upgrades available for it. Top speed, if I recall correctly, is around 90-95 mph. While I wouldn't recommend getting a large bike (1000 cc or more), you may want to look into the Shadow 750's. There is a chain-drive model which is really nice looking, and it's fairly cheap to boot! Good luck, man!
I have a 95 VLX I bought new. Its been a great bike and I often prefer it for town riding over my heavy cruiser. Its light, handles, makes decent power and will run at interstate speeds all day. I think it would make a good first bike, for you. You'll outgrow it, but that's the nature of the sport.
I'm 5'9". My first bike was a 350cc Honda scrambler.
