New Motorcycle Suggestions? |
I'm going to be in the market for a new bike within the next 6 months or so. I'm strongly leaning towards cruiser. This will be my first "New" bike (1st bike was a 81 kawa kz750) . Any suggestions. I've been lookin at a star custom 650. I'm 6'4" and 235 lbs, don't know if it'll be big enough. But money is the main object, needs to be 6k or less, and new. The V-star650 is a serisouly dinky bike. My mother used to have one and I actualy prefered her older shadow 600 in almost every way to the yamaha. The gearing is to short, the bike is to heavy for the amount of power it makes, it drags parts to early, and it is too cramped (I am 5'8") If I were goign to buy a cruiser style biek i would look long and hard at either the Vulcan 900, or the Suzuki M50, both good bikes with plenty of power and room. 6'4" + crusier + $6000.00= unlikely I recomend a Honda VTX. They offer both a 1300 and an 1800 cc option. I have a 1300 and it has plenty of power and cruises very nicely. Will cost you more than $6g's however. You could probebly get a used one in that range. A new one will run about $8g's I am also 6'4", but more like 260lbs. There is no way I can ride a Star, they are too small for me. I get cramps in my hips and legs. Of course, I am older and not as flexible as younger people. A new cruiser for $6K is going to be tough. Especially given that you need a bike that is big enough to actually cruise on. Your best bet is to find a dealer of a japanese brand that has an older bike that is still new. This does happen by the way. My buddy bought a brand new 1997 Yamaha in 2000 at 45% less than MSRP. It was still in the box at the dealer. Japanese bikes don't hold their value as well as others because of this phenomenon. The dealers end up over stocked and the new models arrive before the old ones are sold. And since they are relatively inexpensive compared to say Harleys and Euro bikes, the "last year" model can be purchased pretty cheap. So shop around, and be sure to sit on the bike before you buy. If you can con the dealer into a test ride, that would be even better. Nothing sucks worse than having a great bike you cannot ride comfortably. Good luck! Danny Boy your a big Dude and you need a big bike a 650 is going to become to small in a little amount of time .Every time I see some big guy on a small bike I naturally think its either his first bike are all he can afford ,If you only have 6k then plunk it down on a VTX and finance the rest are find you a used Harley for 6k it holds its value Forever and ever , So they tell me /Peace Hi Danny Boy, the Yamaha is a nice bike but I'm afraid it will be too small for you. Maybe you should hang on a little longer until you accumulate more money or in six months start looking at good used bikes. I'm sure you'll be able to find something very good for 6,000 or less. There are great deals in the winter around Christmas. For your size I wouldn't get anything less than a 750 but I would look for something of at least 1000cc. Just for an experiment and research why don't you look now to see what you can find for $6,000 that you'd be interested in. Look at CycleTrader.com , Craigslist, and eBay and your local newspaper. Today's bikes are fantastic and you'll be able to find some great bikes. Good Luck i'm 5-11 195 and i ride a star 650 custom, it may be too small for you but i have a friend who is 6,3 and 400 lbs and he rides a suzuki boulevard c50 which is 800cc's and it moves him around just fine. good luck with whatever you choose |
