Suzuki Motorcycle Boulevard C50 Noob questions? |
I'm a "squid" (35 miles under my belt) with a couple questions regarding the Boulevard C50. Please be helpful: 1. When I was making an acute angle turn, my floorboard scraped against the road. This scared the hell out of me but I heard it is normal for cruisers. Opinions/suggestions? 2. When I am shifting the gears up for the first time on a ride (my bike is relatively new) the gears make a clunk and short whiny sound. Is this typical of cruisers? 3. In terms of downshifting, I have a lot of practice to go with shifting down BEFORE I stop. It seems like I get it every so often, but other times I get a lil engine braking. Anyone have a surefire downshift procedure/schedule? 4. Once I accidentally downshifted from 2nd to 1st without pulling in the clutch. No jerks or strange sounds came from the bike. Is it cool as long as it never happens again? Don't call yourself a "squid" unless you are an idiot when riding the motorcycle. Simply being new doesn't make you one, being stupid when you're on the bike does. 1. Your floorboards will scrape when you lean that bike over. All that means is you are reaching the maximum lean angle. If you can do it without freaking out and dropping the bike, especially in a parking lot at walking speed, then you are pretty much getting the maximum turning ability of the motorcycle. 2. The sound you hear is pretty much normal. You will hear even more of the engine and transmission noise if you have a windshield. 3. Practice. The more miles you log, the better you will get at it. Nothing wrong with engine braking, it helps extend the life of your brake pads. Your bike has a "back torque limiter" which slips and helps prevent the back tire from locking up momentarily if you downshift at too high of a speed. 4. I'm surprised it actually went into 1st without using the clutch and getting no grinding or lurching. A few missed shifts is not going to kill the bike, but you don't want to make a habit of it, for sure. Your bike will survive that single misstep. Source(s): Owned two Suzuki's. Intruder 800 and Intruder LC1500. never ridden the Suzy you have..but I can answer some of the questions.. lean far enough & bikes scrape.. My FJ1100 Yam is wearing away the foot pegs..LOL not a problem if you dont run off the edge of the tyre.. gear box clunky.. dont know.. changing down & up for that matter.. if the clutch is in the motor isnt doing anything.. (Check out the questions on the site about not using the clutch to change gears) I use the clutch to get mobile & then shift using the engine revs .. but Im still a boy racer at heart... 35 years riding & counting |
