How to get rust off of town cruiser bicycle? |
I just bought an old town/beach cruiser bicycle and the fenders have rust on them. How do I get it off? All the new fenders here in the stores are plastic so I want to keep the orginal ones. There is a prodcut called Nevr Dull that we used to use in the shop. It is basically a polish infused cottom wad. You cut off a piece and use it to polish out rust and tarnish. This works great on fenders. If the rust has really permeated the metal though, removing rust with anything will be difficult. I would try a rust remover made for metal like "CLR" which you can get from any hardware store. Interestingly, cola works too (I once heard that coke uses it to clean the engine blocks of its delivery trucks) another post the other day mentioned aluminum foil instead of steel wool because it will scratch less. Even if you do clean it though, It might leave a little in the metal, because rust actually eats small holes in it... Good luck work in a bike shop Naval Jelly, old product, but works like a charm!
