What's the best kind of bike rack for my car? |
I just recenly bought a cruiser bicycle and it's slightly heavier than a normal mountain bike. I need a bike rack for my car for easy traveling (so I dont have struggle with putting it in my car). I drive a Volvo station wagon, and I prefer the rack to hang from the trunk or the back of the car, not the top, but I dont even know where to start looking! Can anybody help? Thanks! Since most crusier frames tend to have some curved tubes on the frame and large tires, you may want to consider going with a tow bar (hitch) on your car with a Hitch Mount from Yakima. Easy to use, low to the ground for loading and has a quick securing system that hangs on to the front wheel instead of the frame. Will also give you easy access to your rear hatch door. Source(s): http://www.yakima.com/product.aspx?id=29... Saris Bones2 It's a trunk/strap rack. Very stable, easy to use & reasonably priced. I imagine that you keep your dogs in the back of your station wagon and there is a good chance that you have a divider over the back set. The best solution is a tow bar (hitch) mounted carrier. Depending on the brand it can fold down or pull off to allow opening of the rear door. http://www.axsarm.com.au/ Click on "fold down" for each brand on this link http://www.bike-racks-plus.com/hitch_mou... There are plenty of these on ebay. you could get a new one at most local bike shops. You will also need a tow bar (hitch). Even with the cost of the tow bar (hitch) and the rear carrier this system is competitive with roof mounted systems. (The tow bar (hitch) is very useful for other things as well.) |
