Anyone know a good resource for vintage bicycle identification?

I'm in the process of restoring my dad's old chrome-frame cruiser and it has no brand or date identification on it anywhere. Looks like it could have been manufactured anywhere from 1935 to 1965.

Can your dad tell you where he bought it or when?

Unfortunately without seeing the specific frame it is going to be almost impossible to help. There are small details that tend to point to specific manufacturers and there are variations to those details that can often give clues on model and year.

Perhaps if you could provide the serial number and the location of the serial number there is a slim chance that this will provide a clue. Wheels and components also provide clues. Rim design, hubs (especially coaster brake or 3 speed rear hubs), and extra stuff can also help.

Generally a chrome cruiser (middleweight) frame means it is lower end.. sounds counter-intuitive but this is the way things happen. Source(s): 27 years in the industry
