Should i buy a yamaha R1?

i have been riding atvs since i was 6 dirtbikes since i was 9 and racing mx and flat track and TT on atvs since i was 13, i have had a katana and a few project cruiser's but i am seriously looking to buy a R1. i have a lot of time on my cousins little R6 and i have ridden his R1 many times as well. i know that i am capible to ride it i was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a R1 to ride to work "25-30 miles one way" and on the weekends. what breaks often, anything wear out to quick? i just want to know if there are any ghosts in this bikes closet before i sign on the line... my cousins have had no trouble but they are for plesure only and are not ridden every day like this one will be. any help would be greatly appreciated!

You like it buy it

it is you that has to look down at the face in the gas tank and be happy with it

IF YOU WANT RELIABILITY BUY A HONDA.....I'VE HEARD THEY HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!!! Hope this helps. Plus the CBR 1000RR has been winning more ama races that the r1 for years!!!

Yamaha has always had reliability as their main priority, now their improvements since 2006 have made the R1 very rideable.
Your experience and capabilities make the R1 the natural upgrade for you.
Good riding.

before you buy it get an insurance quote, depending on your age you could be paying between $1500 to $3000 on insurance for that bike.
A less expensive alternative would be the FZ1 or the FZ6, both bikes use the same engines as the R1 and R6 and are tuned to run at normal highway speeds at lower rpm's, but both bikes are capable of 140 + mph, they offer a more comfortable upright riding position and are much lower cost on insurance rates.
2006 and 2007 R1's have the fly by wire throttle that needs programed by the dealer, there have been problems of dead spots in the throttle between 5 to 6K rpm, but you're at the mercy of the local Yamaha Dealer to correct that
