My first bike?

I really want a cruiser. Im like 6ft tall and weigh around 285lbs. I have been told to get nothing smaller then 1000cc on a cruiser. I will be buying used and dont want to go over $6000. I would like to get a V Rod but man their expensive lol. So I have begun to look at a VTX 1300Cs anyone have other suggestions. How many miles is too much for a bike? Would a VTX 1800 be too much? What would be some bikes to stay away from for a first bike? Thanks

A 750 cruiser will still do 80mph, yet the lighter weight will allow u to make low speed "saves" when a heavier bike would fall over even with u throwing everything u have aginst it.
PS: U titled this "My first bike" so somewhere inside u aren't planning on it being the last - start smaller and make the initial experience as painless as possible.

(to the newbie; "sure I think u will be fine on a Haybusa".... and there will prob be 1or 2 undamaged parts from the crash I can get real cheap). :crackup:

A well cared for Japanese or German tourer or cruiser will be good for over 100,000 miles.

Sorry, I have no knowlege of HD, or Italian bikes.

I realize you're big, but you need to start on something more modest for a few years. almost all big bikes have too much power readily available for a beginner, we actually have laws about it, holding you down to a 250 for the first 2 yrs, to keep you alive.

spend the extra $1000 and go with the Honda VTX1800
the VTX1300 is the same bike except a smaller engine.
The VTX1800 has fuel injection and linked brakes and its a BIG night and day difference in power.
In my opinion the Honda VTX1800 is the best cruiser bike you could get.
cruiser bikes to stay away from:
Kawasaki Mean Streak
Suzuki C90-C50-M50-S50
HD- V Rod is junk, and all the others are slow and heavy

other good bikes:
Yamaha V Star 1100 and 1300, and Warrior

some dealers are selling brand new 08 Yamaha V Stars 1100 for as low as $5995 thats a lot of bike for that price, and almost half the price as a new Honda VTX1800

I think the 1300 would be plenty bike for you. I also think it is one of the coolest Jap cruisers on the market.
