What size cruiser bike is good for me? |
I am 6'2" 235, athletic build. What size bike would be good for me. I learned on a Honda XR 500, but I know that is nothing like a cruiser. I am looking at a Honda CB 750 k. Will I physically fit, and will it be enough power. I know eventually i can get a bigger bike, but is this good for starters? TIA No street experience. But I know the basics. Taking a safty course in the spring. My best advice: you're a fool if you do not sit on at least 4 different bikes and test for comfort. Some sit higher, some low. Note which ones feel comfortable for your body in a relaxed position. 750 will take you down the road. How much experience do you have? I am only 5 1 and I have a Harley sportster 1200. (yeah, it's been lowered) You will have no problem with the CB750 as you defiantly have the long legs for it. as far as fit goes sit on the bike and see if you are comfortable if it has a center stand put it up and try using all the controls if it feels good then get it as far as engine size goes a popular misconception is bigger is better up until the 70's most bikes were under 500cc and everyone was fine what you need to ask your self is really how often are you going on the highway or some other road that requires speeds over 50mph if the answer is not often then a bigger bike will actually make riding more difficult because of its weight but as far as the Honda you are looking at if the bike fits you physically there will be more than enough power for the highway and around town good luck Iff you fit on it AND can pick it up when it falls over, then consider it as a possible choice. Beyond that it's largely personal preferences and affordability. Borrow some, get some test rides up, study what goes wrong with them, where and when the maintenance is due, what it costs, can you DIY? what probs do similar old machines have, and what costs to fix them. Are there any known, obvious features that are going to be a worry? See Yamaha TX750 exhaust ballance tube-it was an obvious disaster to those who had understanding, but fools bought it anyway. there's been several others as bad, or worse. A CB750 isn't a cruiser. I agree with emucompboy. A Honda CB750 is not a cruiser and you definitely need to check out your local Harley dealer.if you're interested in a cruiser. I'd suggest a bike in the Dyna or Softail line. It's all personal preference. My husband and I each have a Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Each one has been customized to our own preferences. I couldn't ride his and he wouldn't ride mine. What ever you chose, take a rider safety course and ride with someone until you get some hours done. I use mine to comute to work and it's great. Oh and my husband is 6'2" and weighs about 280. CB750K is a standard. It's the one I started on, and it served me very very well for about 4 years. I certainly got my $500 worth out of it! |
