Are stretch bikes in any way hard to ride?

I deciding weather to get a stretch bike or a regular beach cruiser. I'm leaning towards the stretch bike but the guy at the store said they were hard to ride. I'm not sure what he means.

They're mostly meant for show, not something you'd want to ride over hilly terrain or cover long distances with. Very hard to pedal on account of how your legs are positioned, you'd get tired REAL quick. If you plan on riding more than 10 miles at a stretch get a regular beach cruiser.
