Motorbike floorboards...?

I am planning to buy a cruiser motorbike, and was wondering if the footpegs could be moved back far enough in order for me to ride at a "standard" riding position rather than "cruiser" riding position, that is, feet kicked out far in front, sitting straight upright, as i dislike this position. I realise that the bike I plan to buy (Yamaha Vstar 650 Classic) has a rather low seat height, and that in order for it to not look too funny, I'd have to get the seat height adjusted to a higher height if i get the floorboards moved backwards. I'm not too smart in the customising area of motorbikes, so I was wondering if I could get the floorboards moved back far enough and the seat raised just enough to change the riding position? Would it have to be done at the factory? Also, would it be really expensive?

buy yourself a Harley 883.... you can get all kinds of aftermarket seats, parts, WHATEVER... if you buy it new you get 2 years UNLIMETED MILEAGE warranty... if you spend another $2000 you can get a 7 years UNLIMITED MILEAGE warranty...

look you seem like a nice kid

The floorboards on the vstars are not that far forward. I have a vstar1100 and it's the first bike I had with the pegs/floorboards placed somewhat forward compared to a standard bike. It took me all of 10 minutes to get used to it and like it.

You could move the boards back a little but you would have to make a bracket to do it. There are no kits on the market to do this. The only problem would be if you move the pegs back the brake pedal and shifter are still in the same place. So, instead of having your feet in place to use these without having to move your feet you will need to move your feet every time you brake or shift.

Try it with the floorboards where they are. I bet you'll end up liking it. The "sitting upright" position is more comfortable on long, all day rides. Besides, with the floorboards if you want a more "standard" position for your feet you can do this by just moving your feet backwards on the boards. If you have the front part of your feet on the boards and your heel off the end of the board this is pretty close to a standard position.

Im a motorcycle mechanic, the shop I work in has had MANY 650 V star bikes come in at about 40,000 miles with a thrown rod .DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE!!!!!!!

As I have no idea where you're located at, try these links:

As tamarack points out, the controls will still be in the same place, and difficult to use properly unless you modify them too.

Try having the seat moved/adjusted/changed first.
Changing where my rear end sits kept the pegs and controls in their relationship and put me where I was comfortable.
Different bike, same concept.
