What kind of motorcycle is better? cruiser or sports bike?

I going to get my first bike soon but dont really know what kind of bike I should get. I like both cruiser and sports. What is more fun to ride and which one do you perfer?

I guess it would depend on the kind of riding you'll be doing. I've ridden and enjoyed both. Since this is your first bike, I would recommend a basic street or cruiser type.

If you decide to go with a sportier model, start off with a 500cc or 600cc.

Whichever one you decide on, give yourself a good deal of time to get accustomed to the bike. How it steers and maneuvers, especially at slow speed, and by all means take the MSF basic and advanced courses. You will be a better rider after completion.

Cruisers have a much more relaxed riding position by comparison.

the sport bike is going to be more fun, but the cruiser will be more comfortable on longer rides. so in my opinion as someone who likes to be comfortable i would prefer the cruiser.

A HARLEY,GREAT COMFORT AND THEY ARENT SLOW ANYMORE. U DONT SEE MANY (OLD) SPORT BIKES AROUND THEY WEAR OUT. HARLEYS LAST AND LAST

I'm a sports bike guy. so, for starters, there are many sports bikes to choose from: Suzuki GSXR 600, Yamaha R6, Honda CBR, among others.

i prefer the cruiser's however i used to own a sport bike. yes it was fun but just not very comfortable. it hurt my back on rides longer then 1 1/2 - 2 hours. think about how much you are going to ride a day.

Depends on how you want to ride. If your are more performance oriented, get a sport bike. If you enjoy looking at the scenery and like the style get a cruiser. Also don't forget there are many things in between. Sport touring bikes, adventure touring bikes, enduro. There is bike out there for everyone.

And don't buy the "sport bikes don't last" argument. Or "plastic is crapstic" motto. Modern bikes are very well built and very reliable, no matter what the type. (For the simple reason manufacturers have to deal with warrenty issues)
The reason you don't see a lot of "old" sport bikes on the street is that the technology and styling changes so quickly that people want the latest and greatest. Sport bikes also typically live a harder life than a cruiser so there are more accidents.
The cruiser market is more stable with subtle changes from year to year, so the need to buy a new bike every couple of years is not as great.

Right now I own a Suzuki SV1000S, which is a sport bike but with a Vtwin. I like being different. It's been dead nuts reliable. But this summer I'm adding a new bike to the stable.. probably BMW adventure tourer, or a sport touring bike for two up riding. So have fun, got to a bike show or two.. talk to people that ride different bikes. Figure out what is your style and most of all keep two fists in the wind, the rubber side down and the shiny side up!

Common sport bike misconception is that your arms are for leaning, there not. Your arms are for steering, stiffin up you lower back and support your upper bod with your back. Sounds rough but it works and I never got sore. I read it in the tips section of sport rider. It kept from selling my new r6. So on that note, I have a Yamaha FZ-1 and nobody but the really big dogs get away from me. And mine sits me forward about 2 inches. Its a good compromise, I live in the woods of northern MI. So doing 180 isn't the best bet. But my FZ-1 is faster than 600 thru the quarter it just does not have the top end, mine does 156. Look at V-max? They are stupid fast and their a power cruiser. NOBODY on a cruiser will ever beat you on of those. Harley is WAY overpriced and over sensationalized, and very slow. A honda goldwing is faster than a 1200 sportster. Check it out. As I think about it you would learn more and be less intimidated on a cruiser. Its all up to you. Are you smart, cordinated, competent, calm. You have to take a good look at yourself and ask what do I have business being on? Talk to motorcyclist not bikers, theres a differance and ask around see what everyone has to say.

your first time ride bike?? or first time purchase new bike??
Best to get used bike and get more experiences before new bikes.
sport bike is not comfortable for long trips. Cruiser bike is great for long ride but not in city.
I have two bike with me is 1985 Yamaha FJ600. This bike is like half touring and half sport. But not good for long ride for me due to back problem and shoulders too. I have another bike is 1986 Honda CB450 SC night hawk. That is my most comfortable ride , and good long ride too. and more relax on my back and shoulders.
It is up to you. Its your dream. What is your future plan?? local rides or travels??

if you want to do tricks or just ride in town the rocket definitly the way togo but if you like taking long scenic rides i suggest getting the cruiser.

It all depends on what type of rider you are. Sportbikes are more for the people who like flash and speed. If you are an RPM junkie, sport is the way to go.

If you just like the freedom of the ride, have that "take it easy" kind of attitude, then go with a cruiser. Cruisers are very customizable so you can make it look sporty if you like.

For a first bike get something used and cheap. Don't worry about the style or look. Chances are you'll beat it up a bit and drop it a few times just learning and building your instincts. Once you have a few thousand miles under your belt get the bike of your dreams.

My first bike is a 2004 Honda 750 Areo. I have had it 3 years and I LOVE it. It is very comfortable and it has the power I need to move fast. I have never had a sports bike but I cannot imagine doing a long ride on one.

The bottom line is you will need to try out some different styles. If you have your motorcycle license then I would suggest going to one of the demo rides that the big manufacturers hold each year. Then you can try out a few different styles of bikes to see what suits you best.

One bike is not better than the other. They are different and made for different purposes. How much fun to ride depends on the rider.

If you are on a budget and like automatic bikes, check out scooters which are at least 150 ccs so you can drive on major highways.

If you still have your heart set on an all-round motorcycle, look for a used BMW, which provides the need for speed and the comfort for long-distance cruising.

Good luck!
