Is it possible to add a hand brake to a cruiser bike with a coaster brake? |
i just wanted to have a back up brake It's possible if you've got the right type of fork. There are a number of cruiser type bikes that have gears so the parts are out there. yes Most forks have the hole made for accepting brakes. You can also check and see if there is a place on your seat stay for mounting. You should be able to mount at least one hand brake. It's possible if the brake mounts are there and the tires aren't too wide. That said there are cantilever brakes that can handle a 3" tire although it is more common to go with disc brakes at that width (again assuming there are mounts on the fork and on the wheel). |
