I cruiser bicycles with the springer front suspension... should it compress a little just from sitting on the?

bike? im doing some adjustments on my new bike and ive noticed that the spring suspension (50's reproduction bike) compresses some just from sitting on the bike, because of this when i hit a good bump or go off a curb andthere is a good amount of extra compression followed by the weight being lifted back off the spring has a good amount of room to go to return to normal and it winds up slamming pretty hard against the rubber stop making a noticeable clunk. i am wondering if this is normal or if i should tighten the spring so that it take more then me just sitting on it to move it away from the stop. not sure how there supposed to work.

hopefully my question makes sense haha i just read it over and it is a little confusing sounding.
if you dont know what type of spring im talking about type "phantom bicycle" into a google search. the springer suspension on that bike is the same as mine.

i think you just have soft suspension and it is fine, even though im no mechanic

lol idk

Depends on where you ride and what you are riding on... the terrain...

it should work just like a Harley Davidson Springer just smaller size. you need to adjust the spring to your preference. Probably just about to the extent that it does not flex when you sit on it. you don't want the hard bump stop when it flexes back. it should be a smooth fluid motion. it cushions the front end.

You should adjust the spring to that it doesn't clunk. If you have it so it doesn't bottom out like that, and then it gives when you sit on it -- fine. Have fun with the retro bike!
