*Vultures Knob>>>Cruiser Bike

A delima I've run into with my parents about buying a new bike. What do you guys think?

Here's the facts:
I'm 22 and a full time student with no job.
I've owned a Honda Shadow 750 Spirit for a little over a year now.
I've been riding cruisers (my parents) since I was about 17.
I've always wanted a sport bike.
Everybody I ride with has a sport bike and it sucks...i'm always left behind and have to catch up.
I want to sell my bike and use the money to finance a new one (GSX-R 750) until next December (12 months) when I will have the money to finish paying it off in cash.

Problem...my parents are in charge of my funds and they've threatened to cut me off if i do this.

I don't understand their problem, they say my bike is perfectly fine but the fact is I'm bored with it and it's just not me. It doesn't reflect my personality.

They also say that the money in my college fund is not for that kind of stuff yet they let me get the bike I have with it, and my mom is the one that found it for me and basically pushed me into buying it.
any advise will help
no smart@$$ comments plz

tony r: who the hell said i was living at home, for your info i live in a completely different state than my parents. I live with 2 roommates in a run down place. So screw you!!

I know I said that I didn't have a job because I figured the one I have really doesn't count. I basically intern at the airport part time which doesn't pay but I get good experience for the future. So yes I think I'm blessed to have a bike in the first place but I wouldn't exactly say I'm a spoiled brat like it may seem. I just don't understand what the big deal is with selling the bike I have and using that money to buy a new one.

I have to agree about not using your college fund for a motorcycle. Now if you have another way to pay for it, then I don't see their problem. Just wondering why you want the 750? The 600 is cheaper, and if you gear it, it is faster than the 750. It cost about $150 to gear it, but that would still be cheaper. I'm just looking at it money wise. Also the dealers around me always have used bikes that you can finance. People trade in their 600s for 1000s, so you can look into that as well. Good luck, ride safe and remember they are totally different riding experience from cruisers.

Get a part time job. I went to college full time and had 3 jobs on the side to equal full time. Then you'll have the money for it and you won't have to dig into your funds.

Here's the facts: You're parents are trying to pull the strings deciding which type of bike you're allowed to ride. They're afraid you're not going to have the common sense to control your right wrist. It's time for you to get a part-time job on the side. Don't dip into your college funds. If you've been riding since 17 and are 22 now, they should know by now you at least have the skills to navigate streets. Don't be so eager to go out with your friends when you get your new bike, it sounds like they are part of the pin-throttle crowd. A lot of my friends have come back with wadded up bikes thanks to their stunt devil friends.

Sorry if you think this is smartazz. Your parents are paying your bills. If you don't like their plan, leave college and get a job so that you can pay for a bike yourself.
You sound like a spoiled brat to me. I couldn't afford any bike when I was in college.

Your parents sound pretty reasonable judging that you have a bike at all and not some nerd cage,, and responsible, citing the fact you have any college fund at all. Get through college and then talk spam. Get a job too for the pure experience, I'm tired off listening to spoon fed politicians and other miscreants who have never worked a day in their life.

Ok, this might be falling on deaf ears, but my answer is sincere.

First, a Honda Shadow750 will break any speed limit anywhere, you need to decide if going too fast is right or wrong. No parent wants a dead son, so they are asking for you to stay on the cruiser for a reason.

It is reasonable not to use your college money for the financing. I assume the Honda is paid off, and that is another reason not to finance a new one, not good to have bills like that. Have you considered that the insurance is going to be a lot more money? I would bet you didn't. and it will be much worse when you have an accident. You will notice I didn't say "if", that's because you will go down sooner or later, cruiser or not.

Your parents have control of your finances for a reason! Did you save all the money for college? I would bet not, in which they are in their right to control their investment in you.

Years ago, I had a Hurricane 750 (yes, when you were a baby), and for travel, crotch rockets suck! They are fast, and give the rider a false sense of confidence. It might be that a crotch rocket is not within the parameters you need.

On the other hand, you should get one after college (not because of your buddies) but to get it out of your system. Your buddies won't be around in a year or 2, it only takes one death to make them lose interest.

I rarely see anyone over 30 having a crotch rocket, keep that in mind, it is because of the reasons mentioned above.

If you are bored with your bike, you need to take it more places, not replace the bike anyway.

Good luck!

your 22, living at home in your parents house ,wake up smell the roses ,get a job ,get your own place ,go buy your own bike .I agree with your parents .You already have a fine bike ,but you worried about image & wot your friends think,??????,your lucky to have a bike ,a 750 at 22 !~!!!!Did your friends fund their own bikes or did their parents fund them ?Trade in your bike if your so bored with it, or trade in the family.Hope you relize wot life is about soon ,& standing on your own two feet

> Everybody I ride with has a sport bike

Find a new group to ride with. Why are you riding with a group anyway? I thought you were a full time student! Quit fooling around and do your homework.

Anyway -- wait 'til after you graduate to get a new bike.

Well, since you're 22 and living all grown up on your own, why do you need your parents approval? If it's because they control your money, then you aren't really on your own, are you? I guess if you want the benefit of that college fund, you'd better do as they please. You'll just have to play catch up with your friends. Or, you can cut the apron strings and pay your own way, like a man.
