Automatic motorcycles are easy to find on the net but why don't people look for them? |
Ridley motorcycles in the USA make a great type of cruiser and chopper with fully automatic twist and go transmission. http://www.ridleymotorcycle.com/html/mot... I only wish they made them in Australia as to import them is soooo expensive. They have low seat height (24") and low centre of gravity so manouvering them is quite easy I presume as I am a scooter rider looking to upgrade in the future. Honda put 2 concept bikes out at the tokyo motorshow last year one being a dn-1 sports bike (680cc) seen here at http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-n... and the other being a scooter which looks fantastic and more sporty than the older scooters. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-n... Have a look as these bikes are all great and I hope they go into full production as I would love to test ride them. 1. Not as fun to ride, you lose the "feel" of the bike 2. You can't use the engine to slow the bike as much 3. More complicated to work on, costs more to repair. Not to many people even know that there are automatic transmissions in motorcycles. australia banned automatic weapons because they are dangerous automatic high speed bikes lack a little control and require more use of front brakes which would be a recipe for disaster for the inexperienced (insert sort of rider who would buy an automatic) personally I like the gilera motorbike with the moped drive. Best of both worlds, large wheels for better gyroscopic stability. Simplicity of moped mechanics. An automatic chopper would be suicide. The dynamics of choppers are bad enough. Feet out in front so you can not gain stability by spreading your weight wider across the foot pegs, long wheel base, raked out forks that decrease braking ability. Combine that with a lack of engine braking of an automatic and you'll have gumbies rear ending pajeros every sunday near every winery in australia. motorcycle are a beutiful combination of man, machine and physics Honda tried to market an automatic transmission years ago, but many hardcore bikers absolutely scoff at the idea of a bike with an automatic transmission. CFMoto, a Chinese company, has some cool-looking bikes with the belt-driven CVT (continuously-variable transmission). Check them out. There's dealers inthe U.S. http://www.cfmoto.cn/index.asp |
