Exhaust question about my ninja?

my exhaust tanks are pretty beat up and dented on my 2001 kawasaki ninja zx600, its a duel exhaust and i am going to put on two of those exhaust tips that you see on hondas and such, now, ive heard all kinds of different things, back pressure and baffles and such, i went to an exahust shop and they said it wont hurt the bike at all as long as i keep the pipes the same lengh or maybe extend them a couple inches. now, ive seen these choppers and such and they have just straight pipes all the time, is there a difference between mine and theres besides the normal things, will it sound like an indy car or something? im tired of the quiet exhaust and cannot afford another preformance one, Loud Pipes Save Lives ive always said. opinions plz, knowledge is power

"Loud pipes save lives"- That my friend, is a loaded statement. Some people will argue against you on that one. On the one hand people argue that because your exhaust is in the back, the sound it emits is pointless and that only cars behind you will actually hear you and be annoyed by you. On the other hand there are people that see it differently. The more you can do to attract attention to yourself on the road the better off, and safer you are. I agree with the latter group of people. Even though you might bother annoy people a bit by the loud sounds, at least they can hear you and by hearing you see you better. Cage-rs are usually not paying attention to you and whatever you can do to make them see you is worth it. Get loud pipes. ride with your lights on and most of all ride safe. Dont do it. it will be ugly, and other cyclist will call you a big squid.

Harleys have straight pipes. no baffles, no silencers, (some do) so its loud. your bike, which exhaust is a 4 into 2 into 1. has a silencer in the muffler. night even have a catalytic converter. all these contribute to lowering the DB on the bike. you can take out the silencer insert, and it will be louder. or just look on ebay. they have really nice deals.

also, dont think about taking off your slip on. or muffler, it wont be good for the engine. After running your bike and turning it off, the cold air will go up into the exhaust, and into your heads, and may warp the valves, or heads. so dont do it.
What is a exhaust tank???

Loud pipes do save lives. You can put just about any exhaust or your bike so long as you re-jet the carbs to deal with the back-pressure and other changes. Baffles do nothing but quiet down the exhaust. And no it will not sound like an Indy car. Indy cars sound the way they do due to very high RPM's. Your 600 will sound like a 600 no matter what exhaust you choose, so pick on the basis of price, looks, and sound... in that order.
Good luck.
Loud pipes save the lives of riders in certain situations but annoy everyone who doesnt ride. In my opinion dont do it, it will look like crap. Take both exhausts off and start your bike...notice the sound. It would only sound a little muffled from that.

Even though you may be a good rider, you would look like a squid rollin around making all that noise....going nowhere fast. Some states are cracking down on exhaust noise from bikes. Check your local regulations at an inspection station before you pay to get it done. It may save you some money in the long run.
