No, but what it will do is reduce your torque, making it harder to climb hills and stuff.

Speed is not relative to crank arm length...speed depends on the number of times the crank rotates, and that is up to the rider.

Shorter arms will help in the ability to control your bike for tricks and stuff, but then we all know that BMX is Bicycle Motocross (racing) and not stunt riding as another answer suggests. A BMX bike and a stunt bike are wayyyy different. Source(s): 26 years in the industry
YES IT WOULD MAKE YOU SLOWER. BUT THEN YOU CAN DO MORE ELITE TRICKS and that is what matters in the BMXworld not going fast. Also change your gearing to something like 30X11 and use a Shadow Conspiracy chain.
