How do you build a bmx bike ramp and how do you curve the wood and what wood do you use? To the guy that said to put the 2x4 in wood ARE YOU INSANE! That will warp it yea but not in the way you want it and it will weaken it. You can buy ramp plans from www.danscomp.com or you can do a search and find some additional ones. Most of them will give you the material list and instructions on how to build it. This is the best and safest way to build ramps. we always got our wood wet and just used frames to form it over time it bends..alot easier to just have them built for you or use dirt tho lol You'll have to do the math for the ramp geometry, but you can use multiple layers of bendable plywood. Usually the stuff is about 1/8" thick, and you'll need 4 to 6 thicknesses. Contact a wood specialty supply store since it is for certain you won't find it at Lowes or Home Depot. Regarding the frame for the ramp, it is possible to bend 2x4 lumber by soaking it for about a week and clamping it over a form, then framing it as necessary. Find a section of sewer pipe or something else that is the correct diameter and use it as a form, then use 20 or 30 clamps over the 8 foot length of the 2x4, let it dry for a couple of weeks. Build the frame on the curved piece BEFORE the clamps are released. |
