Which is better? A light or heavy BMX bike? |
. I have a heavy one and I just started teaching myself different tricks but it is hard doing a bunny hop. If you were curious I have a K2 Reaper. light vs heavy is not the question. Is it strong enough to do what your skills are. light> it breaks> heavy proberly stronger. Less Weight is more a concern for road or xc cyclist. You bmx thrashers need strength. more weight = strength (usually) light = speed and . . . it's going to break a whole lot quicker Try a quality steel frame. Quality steel is not way heavy and its more durable than alloy - has a springy, whippiness, that the often cheaper stiff light alloy frames don't have. If it's hard to bunny hop any BMX - chances are you need to sort your technique before contemplating the pros and cons of your frame. A light BMX bike would be excellent for those 'Hoffman-Mirra half-pipe stunts, and will excel for racing ( even mountain bikers who were former BMX riders swear the light bikes are race-proven!). Heavy bikes will get you better calves training-though you'll travel with more energy drained--so a lighter bike has MORE bang for the BUCK! you need a mid wighted BMX look for 7005 aluminum bike maybe red line GT or haro will be good Weight is the biggest question in BMX today...you can easily ride a 24-25lbs. bike and do anything that you see the pros doing without worrying about your frame snapping in two. Weight on a bike provides some stability in the air but it will also be a hinderence in learning and doing certain tricks. I'v been riding for a long time and I have tried every thing from the 40lb. tanks of the 90's to my current 25lb. beauty...I'd say lighten up your ride and practice those hops....good luck |
