Does any size chainwheel fit any size freewheel on a BMX bike? |
Does any size chainwheel fit any size freewheel on a BMX bike? the answer is no, you have to have the correct gearing, for example, a 9 tooth driver goes with a 25 tooth chainwheel, both get bigger as you go up, if you dont have them matched up your gonna be either pedaling like your in first gear on a mountain bike(pedaling hard, getting no where) or its gonna be way to hard to pedal, so make sure you match the gearing up, you can go to www.danscomp.com look in their digital magazine, find the sprockets and it will explain the gearing to you Hi. There are several types of chainwheel as well as freewheel for bicycles. However, first thing that should be consider is the type of chain that you want to use; 1/8 or 3/16 sizes chain which are commonly used for the BMX or single speed bicycles, and 3/32 size chain which are commonly used for the multi-speed bicycles - 6, 7 or 8 speeds. This type of chain is also referred to as narrow chain. So if you want to use a single speed freewheel on your BMX bicycle then choose a chainwheel and chain that are both compatible with the freewheel. Take note however that most BMX bikes have a one-piece bottom bracket and the chainwheel it contains is only compatible with the 1/8 or 3/16 chains which is only compatible to a single speed freewheel. Hope this helps and good luck with your biking. for a good explanation (not that the other dudes isnt good) you can find it on ridebmx.com or in the ride bmx buyers guide 2007 unless if you race and all the track is down hill and youre really strong, but youll probally loose anyway |
