The sound you're really looking for is a very loud ticking sound when they ride by correct? That sound is from the freewheel. I would recommend that you try a new freewheel. Try an ACS freewheel. If you have flip flop hub I would recommend a 13 tooth freewheel and a 32 tooth sprocket. This is a good combo. If you do need a new chain the Shadow Conspiracy Chain is nice. So you're not actually interested in becoming a better, faster rider, you just interested in _looking_ like one.

Real racers and race fans aren't impressed by poseurs. They're impressed by the guy that cleans the technical stuff and wins a race clean (without pushing his competitors into a snow fence). A real racer doesn't care how his machine sounds, as long as it performs well and is reliable enough to get him across the line to a podium placing.

As far as 'loud' is concerned, it's because they're going fast. The noise is the combination of the speed against the dirt, the bike should _not_ be noisy. A noisy bike is one that is not in tune. Fast bikes are quiet bikes, and if you hear the freewheel ticking it's because he's not pedaling. You don't win races by not pedalling.

If you want to make some noise like a 'real' racer, then try actually racing - go fast. Then win. That's the noise that will get you heard.
I agree with Jason, the ACS claws freewheel sprocket clicks pretty loudly. They are dearer but also a better quality sprocket.
Any other noise coming from your bike means something is not right and needs fixing or tightening or oil/grease or all of the above.
if ya dont mean the tickin noise you must mean the tires its not the tire but the way you apply all you weight down when ya ride makes the rubber vibrate or some **** if not go smoke more dope buddie cause ur nuts
