Who makes diamondback bikes? |
what company makes diamondback bmx bicycles and when did they start making them? Diamondback actually started out quite some time ago as the brand name Centurion. Because of some trademark dispute they changed their name to Diamondback, I think in 1990. The company that is now DB started in 1978 and the name is now owned by Raleigh USA. Up until about 1999 they were assembled in Washington state from parts sourced from overseas on the same assembly lines as Raleigh... in fact, most Diamondback and Raleigh models to this day have comparable models... the only difference is the color and the price. Think of Ford vs. Mercury or Chevy vs. Pontiac. As far as I know the DB BMX bikes are made in one of 2 different factories depending on the level. Typical DBs (like the Viper and Joker) are made by a company called Giant Dragon in China while their DBR Racing models are made by Fairly Bicycle Company... the same people that make the high end "boutique" brands which will remain nameless. Source(s): 27 years in the industry Raleigh makes them now buying them out in 1999. http://www.mailorderbikes.com/news.php?a... |
