Why do some people have small bike chain ring's? |
i think its calld a chain ring anyway the think with the peddals comeing out of it.....why do some people have small one's on their bmx bikes true, but also the trend now is to use a combination of both small chainwheel and small rear freewheel. You end up with a similar ratio as the standard size, the smaller combination gives you reduced weight, stronger parts, and added protection in the rear for grinding, and overall improved clearance because the components and the chain take up less space. it changes the force needed to pedal the bike a larger ring requires more force but is more efficient and delivers more torque per revolution just like on a ten speed when you are climbing a hill you use the smaller sprocket to make it easier to pedal but you have to pedal more to cover the same distance A smaller chain ring is quicker to accelerate from a slow speed, and helps deliver more power at low speeds, both of which are critical for stunt riders. It's called the "granny gear" because it's real low for climbing the steepest hills, or if you want to go "spinning" |
