Why is bmx biking a summer olympic sport?

i watched it last nite or i mean early this morning at 12:30am. a few athlets got hurt. it looks more like a x game sport then a summer olympic event.

Athletes can (and do) get hurt in most of the sports in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Ex:
Pole vaulter misses her mark and falls flat
Gymnast slips off the rings or high bar
Soccer player gets slammed between two other players and cracks a rib
Diver hits head on diving board
Cyclist (not BMX) hits a slippery spot on the road (or track) and causes a pile up

I could go on, but I think I made my point.

BMX is a sport. It takes a lot of training and it has large fan base, why wouldn't it be in the Olympics? I think it's about time.

drzeauss raises another good point. I haven't seen my 13 year old son get out of bed as fast all summer, as he did this morning when I told him the BMX racing was on.

BMX racing certainly is a world-wide sport, and its popularity has grown especially in South America and Europe. I am glad to see it added.

I believe the intention was to gain the attention of the younger audience, most kids have no interest in pole vault, and javelin, and ceratinly synchronized swimming.

I think its the most exciting sport to watch.

Cycling was a sport in the Original Olympics so they feel its okay to have anything bike related. I agree it shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Edit: I'd be okay with it if they had skateboarding >:\ but these sports are what the X games were created for.

The olympics is about world competition, and BMX is a worldwide sport. Why not have it in the Olympics

Because if it were a winter olympic sport they'd slip on the ice.
