What kind of motorcycle should i buy? |
ive never owned a bike before. and i dont like touring bike or harley davidson looking bikes probably the coolest looking bikes ive seen are ducatis. but it seems they maybe too powerful for a begginer. (if this isn't the case please let me know) anyway all advice is welcome thanks Ducati has you covered. Their Monster is a beginner bike, maybe a little spendy but it's a Ducati. First of all, when you think ducati your thinking bad news. I say this because everything about ducati is expensive, repairs, service, the parts have to be ordered all the time. If you are a beginner i would start with a 600 or 650 of your choice but i would never suggest a ducati to anyone. I do recommend a class and there not as expensive as the young lady above says. I dont know where she went for her class at $500, but call the highway patrol or state troopers which ever is in your area and ask them about a class, they all offer them. They would rather teach you than peel you off the road. It usually around $250 for a weekend class. First take a riding course. If you do they will teach you the necessary techniques you will need to ride a motorcycle without hurting yourself. Second it depends on you. If you have a history of car accidents and speeding you should try and go low with a 250 or 500. If you are more cautious and value yourself and your bike, you can go a little higher with a 600 - 750. Be sure to sit on different bikes to see what fits you. The ducati may look good, but it may feel really uncomfortable once you sit on it. It mostly depends on what your comfortable with, and how you plan to ride. Most sportbikes are not good for beginners. Get a used Honda CB200, CB350, etc... Hondas are reliable so Honda all the way. Check out: first of all, do not buy unless you have already learned to ride. If you have already taken your course, then i suggest starting with something around a 500 or 550. I started with a 250 (same that i learned on) and within a month i traded up to a 650. I love the 650, though i kind of wish it was a 750 now lol. point is though, 250 was not powerful enough, and the 650 would have been a little too much for me starting out. dont start off with a "cool" bike... find something close to what you learned to ride on. Most bike dealerships will have 1 yr trade in specials like what i got. Where i went they gave you back 90% of your purchase for the trade in, as long as you bought your next bike from them too, so i only paid another 2300$ to trade from a 2006 yamaha virago 250, to a 2007 honda shadow VLX 650... Buy a used Suzuki SV650s. It's probably too powerful and heavy for a beginner too, but hey, you're a sensible guy, right? Yamaha FZ6 If you do buy a Ducati, understand that at least once a year you are going to have to take it in and get the valves adjusted. |
