Biking/Cycling in Europe?

Hi All,
I'm currently looking for somewhere to go on a cycling trip in Europe for the first week of May.
Looking on the internet a lot of the organised tours are pretty pricey. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where is good for cycling/will be good weather/is not too expensive?
Also i'm not a regular rider so somewhere with mostly flat terrain would be the best option.
Thanks
Katie

i don't care where you do it as long as its no-where in this country

hi i am a bit of a dumb @$$ with countries but in wales there is a place called coed llangelda there are various trails for bikes ranging from the green runs to the black runs (black runs are like huge jumps bridges drop offs etc.) this place is designed for all people and small holiday homes can be rented for the week and they are 5* luxry and not expensive. the place is free to ride and there are enough trails for 2 weeks! If you wanted to take a friend they let you hire all the equipment for the week for about 拢70 and these are like 拢800 bikes! good luck

You could try http://www.ctc.org.uk for advice and info.

Nice on Kipper !

You should have a look at the Youth Hostel Association. You can join it here and use it all over Europe and it is inexpensive. You will also meet other like minded people and you can plan a simple route within an area of say France. It's a great way to see various parts of Europe.

I have travelled extensively abroad on the bike including organised tours.

The North of Majorca is great for cycling lots of clubs go there to train and Graham Baxter does a training camp there every spring. I've been there on an organised tour which was great fun as you meet lots of new people. I have also went solo and just met up with people on the road. The great thing about Majorca is that it is cut off from long distance traffic so everything is quite sedate. Temps are good for cycling too.

An alternative would be the Camargue in France if you want flat roads with cycle lanes and nice countryside. Really easy going there. If you want hills try the Pyrenees or the Massiv Central area of France. Lots of Youth Hostels there too.

Friends have also recommended Tuscany as the area is geared up for cycling.

I did the Danuble cycle path in Germany & Austria last year. Flat as a pancake & good weather.

It's really geared up for cycling and B&B prices are really cheap.

As long as you can get there, it's an ideal intro to cycle-touring.

If you can't get that far, look for other riverside routes. Then you should avoid those pesky hills :-)

this is gonna sound a bit sarcastic, but its not meant that way;The Netherlands have a positive policy regarding cycles-especially in towns and cities-and is mostly flat and outside built up areas, traffic is not too bad.
