Honda xr 125?

Hi I have a Honda XR 125 and fancy doing a bit of touring on it in the summer.

Are there any rules I should follow with it being a small 125cc etc.

I am aware my top speed is limited and it's strictly a commuter bike but surely the odd weekend away won't harm it will it?

the things I am wary of are, maximum riding time before allowing the bike to cool down, max miles in a day etc etc

Ive done 120 miles continuously on a cg125 ( same engine)also a12hp Suzuki GS125 with no problem. Id advise a cruising speed 10mph less than the maximum top speed if you want good engine life. A long continuous trip ie 150 miles stresses an engine less than smaller trips eg 15 10 mile journeys because you make fewer cold starts..

Eh, it's a small air cooled engine right? I wouldn't really be that worried about it breaking down. Those things run forever. I had a 125cc 4 stroke Suzuki SP125, and I took that thing out in the woods all day and I really wrung that thing out. It never stopped running. IT's such a small simple motor there is very little that can go wrong.

Avoid motorways, do some route planning, and enjoy the road. Hondas are great mechanically, you are the limitation I have done 500 miles on a 125 twin in day, no probs, be confident

hi mate. honda seem to go on forever and ever come on over to mine and we will have coffee. live in norfolk area.

Touring on a 125 ???
Are you planing to tour hospitals?? they are not even allowed on most highways even if they could get up to the speed limits

Did the same thing with a CB100n many many years ago. Make sure its serviced and stuff like tyres and brakes are OK before you leave and then go have fun! The bike will cope with the mileage easily enough, my 100 did over 1500miles in 2 weeks no problem, sometimes doing a couple of hundred miles or more in a day. With these small engines keep an eye on the oil levels and take a small tin of chain lube.
It will struggle on motorways and its not much fun dicing with the homicidal foriegn18 wheelers so stick to the A roads for more to see.
