Which bike has the best resell value?

OCR 3
OCR 3W
Schwinn Le Tour
Fuji Newest 3.0

When providing an answer, can you provide specifics on why you think so. Did you sell one? Did you buy one? What was the original price, versus the ending price. I heard after the first 2 years, you get 80-90% of retail, and then it depreciates 10% on the third and subsequent years. Is this accurate?

You heard about right on the resale value, so it depends greatly on what you paid for each as to the resale value.

I haven't owned any of those bikes, nor have I sold any bikes. I have kept all my bikes or given them away. I never even consider resale value of a bike when I buy it, why does it matter?

So far (I'm 54), every bike I've had, I've ridden until it died. When they're no longer suitable for outside, they retire to the trainer. When a frame breaks, a segment of tube gets sawed off and used as a horseshoe stake in the back yard.

Components of old favorites are now wall art in parts of the house I've managed to defend from Mrs. Bullet.

Can you say recycle? How about cheap?

I'd say the OCR 3 would retain the most value. Why? Because women specific bikes have a much smaller buyer base. Even though Schwinn has good bikes too, there rep is poor because of the Wal Mart bikes sold under their name. Fuji again has nice bikes too. But aren't as well known as Giant. The OCR is a very popular bike.

Also, I think resale is more like 60-80% at 2 years. An OCR would be at the high end of that range IMHO. There is always a ton of used bikes for sale. Many buy with the best of intentions but never or rarely ride... so they sell 'em off.

Schwinn was bought out by Pacific Cycle in 2000. Their quality went steadily downhill. Pacific also owns Mongoose, who's quality also went down. Pacific has their own brand of low-quality junk, and they also make Next brand WalMart bikes.

My guess: The Giant OCR 3. Giant is a well known name with a reputation for good value at their price point. You are more likely to sell a used OCR-3 than a 3w because your target marketplace is larger -- it includes both men and women.
