Is a Yamaha Virago 250cc capable of touring around Australia? |
Hi there, I have a Virago 250cc from brand new for a few months and love it. It only has 1000km on the clock. I am thinking about driving it from Melbourne to Darwin for a holiday and back. This is 2800 miles each way. I know a larger capacity bike would be more suitable, but rather than sell a brand new bike that I like, can I expect to make it OK on this one? My worries are overheating or over stressing the engine on such a long trip. Thoughts appreciated! Up here in the states, someone rode a Honda Rebel 250 from Florida to Las Vegas, Nevada. They documented the daily ride and had an article printed in one of the magazines. They had no problems even in the hills. It sounded like a real adventure. Source(s): I believe the magazine was Metric Cruiser. I have a PDF copy of it. Contact me if you want a copy. forget the bike. what about your butt. that is alot of hours to be on a little bike. years ago did Adelaide to sydney to melbourne to adelaide.. on a 350 Yamaha.. take your time .. enjoy the ride.. should be fine.. might want to carry a spare tin of petrol... not sure how far the 250 goes between fills... Absolutely, and why not...take it easy and don't overload the bike and like the other person suggested make sure you know exactly how long you can go between fill-ups. You know that old saying "It's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it" - it applies to bikes too LOL. Enjoy the ride and keep the shiny side up. Cheers. I believe that your worries are correct . ps: the vibration from such a small cylinder bike becomes very noticeable after about 300 miles a bigger bike provides better rider comfort all in all 2800 miles this bike will beat you to death. as long as your not in a hurry and keep an eye on the fluids, than why not, many years ago i road a rz 250 from Sydney to Adelaide via Melbourne took me 2 weeks with a few stops to visit friends but had a ball. you may want to think about a seat cover, you backside may get a bit sore. |
