Why only VERSUS channel is covering "Tour De France 2007"? |
Why this 'Step Mother Act' on "Tour De France 2007" TV coverage? No other channel ESPN, ABC and NOT even Discovery live covering it? Do they know people from outside world know 'Lance Armstrong' more than any NFL or NBA player? Is there something to do with sponsorship or ABS, NBC thinks bicycling is NOT that important to cover? It is unbelievable that an event in which USA is making history year after year, no national coverage!! remember that in the US, pro cycling is still relatively an unknown sport, with out regular leagues and matches like other sports in Europe, it is obviously covered more extensively do you see LaCrosse matches here? what about polo or cricket? same reasons... seems pretty plain and simple to me because the tour de france is not as popular anymore without lance armstrong. even last year was ok though becuase there was floyd landis but this year.. no one seems to care..well not many americans anyways I think it's about money and viewership. What percentage of the population will spend hours each night watching the race? Because Cycling isn't a big sport and they don't have enough money to put it on a real network channel like FOX or NBC. Versus is a cabel channel. That means the League will have to pay less money to air the program. That is why the super bowl or the world series is on huge networks. It's all about money, ABC or one of the major networks will at the end of the tour (usually the last day in Paris) will put on some lame highlight show. But the reason is due to viewership and advertising dollars. Have you ever noticed that certain baseball and basketball teams seem to always be on one channel or the other? ADVERTISING DOLLARS. Fortunately there are some cable channels that cover sports other than baseball, basketball, & football. |
