Can I camp in a state park(outside of a camp ground)? |
Hi I am plaaning to take 40days tour around the eastern half of the US using a bicycle, and I was just wondering whether I can camp in a state park. I do not wish to stay in a camp ground because: a. I am too broke b. They are mostly constructed for the campers with cars. Basically i am going to be a free camper for a little bit over a month and i was just wondering whether this is legally okay. Do I have to check up with individual parks? What is the general rule? If I can camp, can I use my gasoline stove to cook? If you have any other tips I will appreciate your sharing : ) Typically, camping in state parks is illegal outside of the designated camping areas and the rangers will check and cite you if you're camping out of bounds. I would recommend checking out the state parks on your path, you should be able to access this information via the internet, and find those parks that have primitive camping facilities. These are facilities that are specifically designed for those who are backpacking and tent-camping. You will most likely still have to pay for using these campsites, but the fee is small, like $6 per night for a primitive site. As for your gasoline stove...you could probably use it, but I would just use a good old fashioned camp fire. It will work just as well for cooking, will provide you with warmth during the cooler evenings and will definitely not be something that you have to lug around with you as you make your journey. First, you really should check with the individual parks, some have regulations and some have campgrounds that are set up just for tenters. If you do go outside the relm, please be careful. ] In national parks it is usually set up for the people in certain areas as you are disturbing what others will be looking at later. Just remember that if one person does it so does someone else and sooner or later we have no national parks. Camp with care and enjoy your trip, sounds exciting. |
