Pleas help math!? |
I have no idea how to complete this problem. It must be a numerical answer. It cost a bicycle company $9000 to make 50 touring bikes in its first month of operation and $15000 to make 125 bikes during its second month. Estimate the cost of producing 252 bikes in the third month assuming that the relationship between the cost and the number of bicycles produced is linear. If it is linear you can write an equation by using the slope and one point on the line. The slope is change in y over change in x which would be (15000 - 9000) / (125 - 50) = 80 So the equation is y - 9000 = 80 (x - 50) Plug in 252 for x to see the answer. 1st Month: $9000, 50 bikes...$9000/50 = $180 2nd Month: $15000,125 bikes....$15000/125 = $120 180 -120 = 60...so if the assumption that the relationship between cost and # of bikes is linear, then cost per unit should be $60 for the third month THEREFORE 3rd Month: $x, 252 bikes.... $x/252 = $60 x = 60*252 = $15120 you have two ordered pairs (50, 9000) and (125, 15,000). (bikes, cost) You need to find the slope between the points (15,000-9000)/(125,50) = 80 after finding the slope you need to find the linear equation y= mx + b Choose one point (50, 9000) and slope = 80 use point slope to find the equation y- 9000 = 80(x- 50) this give you the equation y = 80x + 5000 now let x = 252 bikes y = 80(252) + 5000 = The cost will be $25160 |
