Battlefield tours france? |
me and a few mates want to do a week touring on motorbikes in spring next year does anyone know where a could get an itinerary of places to stay and a route showing locations of sites ect is there a website , book or personal experience i would be grateful for any help as im organising and i havent a clue!! also which is best ferries for bikes and is true that they wreck thwm securing them for sea? Find a copy of Major & Mrs Holts book on the Battlefields of the Somme. They wrote the book, then started a company called Holt's Tours who I've travelled with many times. It's a truly amazing experioence looking over the old battlefields, particularly in Spring with the Iron Harvest sat on the side of the road. Make sure you visit Vimy, Ypres and Thiepval. Just check that the renovations at Vimy Ridge are complete as the Canadian memorial was being cleaned when I last went (in May). Also try and visit a German war cemetary, they are completely different and provide an interesting contrast to the Commonwealth War Graves. we toured the normandy beaches by car though, thers lots of museums to visit the war cemetary at bayeaux is a very moving experience in the same town you can visit the tapestry. you can visit pegasus bridge theres lots to see so you must give yourself at least a week |
