Credit card is as safe or safer over the internet if it is a secure site because in a store the other person has it for a bit. Just go with a reputable retailer and you'll be fine. Chainreactioncycles.com i believe is the name, is in the UK and has some nice prices if you are posting from europe.
Secure transactions are safe. Be sure your retailer is legit is all you need. Many on-line stores accept Pay Pal. Opening a Pay Pal acct. adds more security.
