Who will win the 2006 Tour de France? And list at least one reason, please.? |
The 2006 Tour de France is now really up for grabs since yankee Lance is out of the running (or biking?). I want to know who you guys think will win this year, and I want to know why you think he will win. I am pulling for Floyd Landis. He is having an excellent season having the Tour of Cali and Georgia in his win column. Those two races came early enough in the season for him to be ready for the TdF. He is an excellent TT and can climb hills. Those two skills make you a contender in the TdF. Hincapie. Because Lance retire. Of the favourites: Basso...if he is fit he will be hard to stop. I don't think Ullrich wants it bad enough anymore...unfortunately just too long in Armstrong's gigantic shadow. Dark horse: Cadel Evans... Ex-montain bike World Champ. In his first tour last year he just followed the peloton around for two weeks then decided to have bit of a crack. In a couple of mountain stages there was Armstrong, Basso, Ulrich and Evans out in front together. Always at the sharp end. TT is good, strong in the mountains. Mentally tough. Finished 8th overall. Won the Tour of Romandie last month... Basso has a good chance, but no one has won the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in the same year in a long time (it's hard to time the training right--riders tend to hit their peak too early in the season). There are two Americans who have a chance at Lance's legacy, Levi Leipheimer and Floyd Landis, both of whom are former team mates of his. Leipheimer recently had a major win in a European race, the Dauphine-Libere, and Landis has been having a decent season, too. Personally, I'd like Ullrich to win. He's just won the Tour of Switzerland (although last time he won that in 2004 he had a really bad time at the Tour, so that might not actually be a good thing). He's getting older, yes, but with Lance gone, I think he's got one more win in him. And I think it'd be great if he could bookend Lance's streak like that. Basso. Best team. Long shots: Valverde, Landis. Ullrich won't finish after being arrested in Spain on doping charges after stage 13. why has it taken so long till yesterday to prove that he has been taking drugs and that now he has been disqualified. He must have been doing for years.Disgraceful. they should also check german world cup footballers. There is something very fishy with german players. |
