Tour the US? |
I want to bike around the US for how ever long until I am satisfied. First, I want to get an Associated Degree from college before I do this, so I have some education when I come back. I want to travel the US and maybe find a place work for awhile then go out and about again. What are some good bikes, tents, backpacks, saddle bags, and sleeping bags? I am probably going to get a survival guide to and a first aid kit. I am just gonna roam US. e-mail me if you have done this. go to a bike shop and then go to a cammping shop. I would suggest not to waste your time, get a car its better and you cover more ground and you can sleep in the back seat. Dude...you're gonna get like 100 miles in and be physically crushed I did a 10-day tour in 1987 from Georgia to Upstate NY. I had a Trek 620 (Today's equivalent is a 520, comes with braze-ons for saddle bags front & rear and 3 water bottle cages) with saddlebags from Nashbar. I didn't go the tent route, I crashed in Motels along the way. It might cost a couple bucks, but after being in the saddle for 7 or 8 hours, you don't want to sleep on the ground. Get a good light system in case you get caught riding in the dark. Make sure you carry spapre tubes, tires and a patch kit and can do basic repairs on the bike. I didn't really have a route planned out, I just traveled parallel to the interstate so there was no problem finding motels or a place to eat along the way. www.adventurecycling.org www.crazyguyonabike.com http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/tourin... good luck Scott |
