I am considering buying a used Motorcycle Ninja Kawasaki....?

It has been sitting in the garage for about 3 years without being turned on at all. It is my girlfriend's sister's bike but soon after she bought it her father pulled the ground cable out and has not been moved since. what are the probable engine issues with a motorcyle like this and is it worth buying it and getting it repaired? Selling for 1000. Not sure of engine size.

You forgot to mention what year the bike is. And we need to know what size it is. These are very important to whether it is worth it. Repair cost will differ. Don't trust in advise that doesn't have all proper information taken into consideration.

Just a side note. I had a 89 Chevy Beretta that I kept at my house after I got other cars. It was going to be a derby car, but never got around to converting it over. Anyway, it sat for over a year in upstate NY. I didn't do anything to store it, it just sat. So when I went to get it going again (needed a winter car) it cost me $35 for a new battery. That's it, it fired right up. I filled the tank up and just drove it. It is a V6 and is pretty high in mileage. The point is, the time it sat may not of had too much effect. If there is no visual rust/corrosion on important engine parts it may not be bad. But whether it is worth it, I stand by my original statement.

Depending if they stored it properly for long term, definitely do not just try to add gas and start it! You could cause cylinder damage. I would talk to a local motorcycle mechanic and explain to him what you have. Most like he would recommend you taking it to him on a trailer so he could properly get it ready to start and run. You will most likely have to rebuild the carbs, which can be costly, a new battery, maybe tires (depending on the dryrot). But the biggest thing about starting a bike that has been stored is lubricating the upper motor so you don't start it dry. But doing all of that may cost more than just buying a running bike for a little more. But good luck!

even if you junked it and sold it on ebay you could get more than that out of it, i junked a non running Honda shadow and made $1700.00 of ebay for this thing. You to try to fix it or have someone look at it but i think it's worth the money unless it's ragged out

don't by it you will have to many problems with it and the relation ship with the family will destroy

don't you think you should check out the bike alittle
more. i wouldn't buy it if it does not run. what year-
what size. how many miles. check the bike over.
not much to go on.

well before you buy have a mechanic check it out and then get an estimate on how much to get it fixed then make an offer but its should still be a good bike if it was grounded so soon after being bought you might have to drain and clean the oil filters and change the plugs but it sounds like a good deal

Buy it, It will give you something to do when she is made at you. Go to a dealer and buy a repair manual for that model and work on it(it will keep you out of trouble)

If it's been sitting like that I'm sure the gas in it has sludged over so you'll need to get that cleaned out and recoated. that's a $200 professional job easy. Wether it's fuel injected or carbuerated, the system will still need to be cleaned out. If you are a do it yourselfer, you can clean the tank out with karosene, then run a whole tank of 112 octane gasoline through it. Obvioulsy and oil and filter change is due. Make sure there's no tire rott. Brake job, spark pluggs, and new battery. Batteries go for about $50. If you take it to a shop, you're looking at no more than $500 to make good. If you do it yourself $200.
