What can I use to repair bicycle tires and inner tubes? |
I have two bike tired (27 x 1 1/8) that are a little torn up, along with the inner tubes, which I believe may have holes in them. What sort of materials should I use. I'm going to cheap, easy, and effective. When completely covered with the adhesive, pieces of old innertube make excellent patches, but small kits can be picked up at a dollar store. The best patch job is semi permanent but should not be trusted - especially while asphalt temperatures rise this July. Definitely buy new innertubes at your earliest convenience, and consider placing big thorn shields inside the tire, next time. For the sheilds, I've had the privilege of finding some 1/4" thick beige vinyl which is used to repair lawn chairs for under $4 at the hardware store. This was wider, thicker, and cheaper than what is sold at the bike shop and has been my best money saver by far. (That slime, by the way, will only make patching impossible when it leaks through larger punctures. ) try apply it in BDSM play rubber cement and tire patches The local bicycle dealer sells repair kits that are not that expensive. You'd be better off to buy a new inner tube rather than repair it. It would be cheaper. Cut up an old tube and use rubber cement. Find the holes and rough them up with sand paper (it helps the cement bond) apply the cement and then the patch. let it dry overnight and then you are good to go. New tubes would only cost about $3 per tire. I just bought some for one of my mountain bikes at Wal-Mart a few days ago. You can also try some sealing foam. A can of that will cost about $7, but you simply inject it via the tire's air stem with out taking the wheel off the bike. walmart has some tire tube that are resistant to flats they are filled with some green slim. all you do is fill it up with air. |
