What type of grease do I need for a bicycle chains and ball bearings?

I have simple 1 speed beach crusier bike that I am repairing. I cleaned the ball bearings and chain but need to regrease them and don't know what to use.

I would suggest teflon based grease for bearings. There are several brands - White Lightning, Dupont etc. Tri-flow grease from Finish Line is great for chains. It's sold in small bottles - real toxic stuff that will eat into your hands, but keeps your chain nice and smooth for many miles. The key for any grease to work - parts should be very clean before application.
Chain wax or wd-40 for the chain and pretty much any bearing grease is fine.
Any kind of oil or grease will work without disasterous consequences. You're going to have to go to the bike shop to buy the best stuff, why don't you just ask them.
You can use any grease for the Ball Bearings, I have seen this one recommended 'Phil Wood Grease'.

Never grease your chain or lube you Ball Bearings.

I prefer a wax based lube for my chain, over time the oil based lube tend to pick up dirt. I use White Lightening.

If you need a site for help with maintenance articles you can use this one:

Use a white grease for repacking the hub bearings and use a teflon based chain lube for the chain. You can use grease, but it will attract a lot of dirt and it will not penetrate between the chain plate contact areas. WD40 is more of a penetrant (mostly kerosene based), and while it does have some lubricant properties, they do not last very long.
do not use WD40! go to a bike shop and buy some real grease made for bikes. i use Finish Line synthetic grease on my bearings and on the chain after i do a major cleaning. i use Krytex wax based lube on the chain regularly. a bottle of each will rack up to about $6 or so. and they will last a long time
No WD-40!!!! If you only want to lube your chain once (it is a beach cruiser, after all) find a lube called Phil's Tenacious oil. That stuff will last through a monsoon (and get very dirty, but who cares, it's a single speed.)
