For those who know about motorcycles?

I am looking into buying a brand new 2006 Buell Blast crotch rocket street bike. The price is about $4,500. This bike gets 76 mpg. This is an American made bike so the parts will be cheaper if I have to repair something. Buell is sold at most Harley Davidson places. Here are some other specs about the bike:

492 cc single cylinder engine
Holds 2.8 gallons of fuel
360 Pounds
4 stroke

Here is the site for the full specs:

The only thing I'm worried about is will this 492cc engine be able to carry my weight alright. I don't need to go like 140 mph as I don't want to kill myself on my first bike but I would atleast like to be able to do 70 - 75 mph. They say this is a good begining bike but I don't want to be just "puttin" along. I'm about 5'9 and weigh 142 pounds. Could you all please tell me what you think about the bike and what its average top speed would be? Thanks!

Mate the Blast is probably about the ideal first street bike, it will do the speeds your talking about no problems. It will carry a passenger at those same speeds.Make no mistake it will be powerful enough to scare the #*#& out of you but at the same time will forgive you small errors which are part of being new to anything. This is the sort of bike that will grow with you as your skill level climbs and its a little different to most of the clones on the street.Nice choice.Stay upright.
Hope this helps.
Five hundred cc's and you call it a crotch rocket??? Like hell! Start out with a 750. Trust me, you will get bored with a 500 within three months and will regret the purchase.
Yes you will be able to do all the things you want to do on this American made bike. I like this bike, but I chose a Kawasaki Ninja (636) for my 3rd bike recently. You'll be fine on the buell. good luck, and be safe (beaver) (rock island< Illinois)
The Buell is OK, but no crotch rocket. it's a good starter bike, and fairly simple to keep maintained. If you are just starting out, I would forget about a passenger for now. The best thing about the Buell is you can use it as a trade in at the pig pen when you move up to your big hog!
Bike in the avatar pic is an H-D FXDWG. It's my fifth bike.
For what you want the bike for, this is an ideal bike for you. My bf rides a Buell lightning, my bro a Buell thunderbolt, and my uncle has the Blast. They all love their bikes, and have had few problems with them. I like my sporty, but my next bike will be a Buell. There are also after market pipes you can add to give it a sweet rumble. Good luck and have fun:)
At 5'9" you might be alright size wise for the bike, at 6'1" I feel like I'm riding the .25 cent kiddie bike ride at the front of the drug store. I.E. it's a tiny thing that feels more like a toy than a bike...to me.

Good luck!
