What recourse do I have with an mech. shop that has done a lot or repairs, but hasn't fixed the original prob? |
I brought my motorcycle in for repairs last November to a shop in Texas. Since then, the mechanic has done numerous (supposed) repairs on it to fix a problem I was having with fuel delivery. Now its June and I'm going to pick it up and he still can't figure out what the problem is and the bike is running no better than when I took it in. Is the shop entitled to reimbursement for all the work done, even though it was completely unnecessary? That depends. Did you sign a service order when you initially took the motorcycle in? If so, you should read the disclaimers and fine print. The first course is to speak to the shop owner and try to come to an agreement. Hopefully that will work to everyone's satisfaction. The alternative to paying for unneeded repairs is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The drawback to that is the length of time it will probably take to process the complaint. A third option is to take up the complaint with your local consumer affairs function, if there is one. These government functions are usually pretty efficient in resolving these problems but you can only find them mostly in bigger cities. Nope, I would not give them one red cent. I would contact the better business beurau, and let them know about this place. There are plenty of good cycle shops in TX, go to a real shop, if your bike is even worth fixing now that these clowns messed with it. 15+ years auto customizing Who decided that it was a fuel delivery problem? If you go in and say it is broke find the problem and fix it. You are on firmer ground. If you tell them what you want them to do and you are wrong about the problem it's your fault. You told them what you wanted done. Is your problem in the tank? In the carb/injector? Blockage in the manifold? Stuck intake valve? Fuel system covers all these problems. Could it also be a problem with spark/ignition system? You are liable for any work you ask the mechanic to do. Not a professional mechanic but know my way arround an engine. |
