How can I keep my bicycle from rusting if I don't have a garage?

I have an old 70s bicycle that needs new tubes and tires, and possibly other minor repairs, and needs rust removal. I just want it to ride short distances, for recreation and possibly to my job, about 2.5 miles away. But I don't have a garage. Would a cover or something help keep rust and corrosion off the bike, or do I need to find a way to store it in my house? I have a small house! I have tried storing it in the house, but it's difficult.

Love that answer sliver bullet.

However, if you want to keep rust off of it you need to keep it inside. there are mounts that you can buy that attach to the ceiling and allow you to hoist the bike up above stuff and out of the way.

But if you must keep the bike outside, use a tarp, but cut slits in it so that the moisture does not build up under the tarp. Otherwise it's just a tererium holding the moisture coming from the ground. Also if you keep it outside, make sure to keep the bike lubed up that will cut down on rusting signifcantly. Hopw this helps
cover it with a tarp so water won't get on it
Yes cover it with a tarp, to keep the rain off.
Covering it outside with a tarp will only keep condensation and ground moisture inside the tarp and on the steel components forming more rust. If you can't get it inside then spray the whole bike gears and all with WD-40 or some other rust inhibitor that will wash of easily. Actually I have ridden with the spray on the bike after a couple of days because the spray will dry. Just be careful when going to work not to rub pants, skirt or whatever on the frame, dirt will cling to these products.

Good luck, Jim
The best way to keep the rust off of it is to keep it inside your house/apartment.
Your bike should be important enough to you to sleep with it.
what kind of society are we living in where people keep their bikes in the garage?!?! RUST??? excuse me please, I just threw up in my mouth
