Cracked a "jug"--help!? |
I have a 1995 Harley 883cc Sportster converted to 1200cc. I was getting an awful sound and blowback, and my friend (who knows a little bit about bikes) looked at it and said I cracked a "jug". What am I going to hae to do to repair it? Can I just redo the conversion kit? Is there going to be more to it than that? Best guess on how must this might cost? PLEASE HELP! I can ride, but engine work is not my forte! :) oh take off the jug examine it for a crakk if so take it a shop tell them to order a new jug stock and then get get cylinder bored to the 1200cc its as easy as that .thats wat i would do even though i ride motocross Source(s): my nogggggggin I don't know what your friends qualifications are or how he determined your cylinder is cracked, but, seeing how cracked cylinders are very very very rare I'm skeptical. I suggest you bring it to an expert for a cylinder leak down test. Your problem may be something much simpler and/or cheaper. Edit: If you can actually see the crack in the cylinder thats a different story. Regarding work at the dealership, always ask for an estimate, tell them you don't mind paying them an hour or so to diagnose the problem, but, if it looks like it will be expensive call first before doing any work. i'm suggesting a bad intake valve. If you cracked a jug, you had better go see your cosmetic surgeon for a replacement implant. Be careful. Leaking breast implants are dangerous. Don't let him squeeze it so hard next time. You should have posted this in the 'female issues' section. Cracked jug???? Sounds more like it may be a blown head gasket. Jug may be damaged, depends on how much it has run after the problem started. A cracked jug is very unusual, blown head gaskets, not so rare. Being able to see combustion around the carb area would be correct place for a gasket. It is common practice to bore the 883 jugs to 1200, do it very often, never a problem, so far. You can also paint the aluminum jugs, use a good engine paint. Tomcotexas Just did 2 sets last month. |
