I've got an Aprilia Mojito with a gas leak and brakes that make a slight grinding sound when not applied. I'm a novice going to TRY to do repairs today. Any ideas on working on the bike without a jack, where to start first, and or if I'm better off paying someone $60+/hr to tackle this.
The fuel leak.....FIX IT. Have you ever seen a bike go up, in a flash ??????? Nasty. Most likely a loose fuel line, or a loose screw, at the fuel tap. It'll jump out at you, if you look for it. If it's coming out of the overflow line, at the bottom of the bike, then you'll have to have a closer look at the carby. It could be sticking, at the float bowl. Turn the fuel on, and give the carby a tap with a small piece of wood. If it stops, then you'll have to remove, and check it ( the carby). If all the lines are on securely, but you find that one of them is weeping, then get a small spring clip, and use it. The brakes. The noise is the pads contacting the rotor. As with the previous answer, check if the wheel is freely spinning. If not, you've got a siezed piston, and you'll have to remove, and refurbish the calliper. Is there a heap of meat on the pads ? They could be worn down, and need replacing.

The force, Luke. Find out where the gas leak is. You may just have loose hose that needs more a clamp tightened. As for the grinding brake, it is not uncommon for pads to lightly rub against rotor. Get a strong friend to hold a 2x4 board under the frame. Now spin the wheel. Is it grabbing?
