There are a ton of women's racers. One of the more well known all women's pro teams is the Lunachix. They are sponsored by Luna Bar, and you may have supported the team without knowing it by purchasing one. So next time you go into the grocery store, check the health food aisle.

Women race all the same disciplines as the men. XC, DH, 4 Cross, Dual Slalom, etc.

Most major bike manufacturers sponsor women's racers. You can go to their sites to find out who the factory riders are.

You can also find out about the women's racers in magazines like Mountain Bike, Dirt Rag, Bicycling, etc.

The differences in racing is the length of the XC races are sometimes a little shorter than the mens. Dual Slalom races are the same length, and usually the DH races are too.
I think that for mountain biking there are lots of gals racing. It seems to be a pretty equal gender sports, most of the races the women does the same tracks as men.
www.cyclingnews.org has complete coverage on womens professional racing, both domestic and international. One of the USAs shining stars is Kristen Armstrong, no relation to Lance. The top womens team in the world is sponsored by T-Mobile.

Womens races are typically half as long as mens. This is one reason they don't need to worry about 'bathroom breaks'. even for the men it isn't usually an issue until they've been on the bike for more than 5 hours. If it becomes an issue, most women simply go in their shorts, as do alot of men. One woman racer I know once squirted her shorts down with water, that way it didn't look like she peed herself. In any event, the design of the cycling clothing is such that the black shorts typically worn don't show it, and even the lighter colored material dries so quickly it's not an issue after ten minutes.
