I am looking to get into professional cycling and looking to buy a new bike? |
I am 18 and weigh about 185 and I have rode in a few junior races and won a few. I am looking for advice on buying a new bike. Should I get a Trek Specialized etc. I wondered about this question too. Why are you asking such a rookie question if your thinking about being a pro rider? You should already know that fit is more important than any specific bike manufacturer. Any top of the line Trek, Felt, Cannondale, Specialized, Orbea, Litespeed, blah, blah, blah with Durace or Record will fit your needs fine if the frame and components are properly sized to your physical dimensions. My question is how much do you train and how tall are you? 185 lbs is way too heavy to be competitive in pro cycling unless your 6'5" or taller. Go look up Hincapie's weight at his height of 6'3". I ride a Giant t-mobile and live it. The pros I know ride a variety Felt, Specialized s-works, TREK etc if you are buying a top of the line bike $6000 they are all good and it is down to personal preference and fit Bicycling magazine has an article praising the new Trek Madone ... fantastic machine if you have the jingle. My road ride is race worthy -- Bianchi Giro -- and a lot less $$. ok, so youre into junior races, yet youre asking a free online community for answers regarding bike preferences? as far as credibility goes, why not ask your competitors? better yet, the races you lost, check out the setups on the bikes that beat you. I hate to be blunt, but the people I know that went or will be going pro started racing around the age of 12. They were winning nearly all of their national races when they were around 14 yo or so. They attended the national training camps by invite yearly. But as far as good bikes go, I ride a Scott CR1 Sl. They were the first to make a sub 900 gram frame that turned out to be tested as the stiffest frame on the market. But that's my personal preference. I have ridden trek and specialized as well. If you are looking for a new bike just remember this lighter = $$$$$. |
