Roadracing motorcycling vs. Formula 1? |
The best formula 1 driver and his car vs the best roadracing motorcyclist and his bike, who would win a race, lets say 5 laps around the track? Lets not take into account pitstops. As the others have said, it would be the F1 car as they have the advantage of higher corner speed. However the roadracers, and I mean true roadracers like Jeremy McWilliams, guys that do the Isle of Man and Ireland road races have the more BALLS. These guys do 180 past lampost, walls, pavements etc. No run off areas. You crash, you die. All professional racers are talented people but some are that bit more talented when life and death comes into it. Kind of like the F1 racers of the 60's and 70's Car, everytime. A few years back, Cycle world pitted a Dodge Viper against an R1. Viper won. A car can drift around turns, run slightly off track, etc. A bike CANNOT without crashing. So, car wins. It simply has way more traction than a bike does. Car. On a track a good supercar will give the best bikes a run for their money, an F1 car would obliterate them. Well, the Formula 1 car is quicker at every track. However, just for reference, the record laptime at Sepang in Malaysia is held by JPM in a Williams BMW in 2004, with a lap of 1'34.223. Colin Edwards ran a 2'00.248 in testing at Sepang this year on his Yamaha M1. So, the F1 car is significantly quicker. the car would win......EASILY!!!! The F1 driver would win. The acceleration is the same for each, but because of the stability and downforce available the F1 car can brake MUCH later and carry more speed through the corners. What I'd like to see is the rumored challenge by Fernando Alonso to Valentino Rossi. Three races: one F1, one rally, and one Moto GP, fastest overall time wins. Alonso would probably win the F1 race, but Rossi would only be a few seconds slower. Rossi has more experience in a WRC car, and there would be NO question about the Moto GP race. Are you listening, ESPN? I would PAY to see that! No way a car can beat Valentino rossi on a moto gp bike. |
