1986 Yamaha Radian Enrichment Curcuit Problem?

I'm happy to say that I'm the proud owner of a 1986
Yamaha Radian motorcycle (5000 miles). I live
in Florida; and, when I try to start the bike (50 degree weather) with the
enrichment circuit engaged, it doesn't want to start.
When I get home and the weather is about 65, it starts
but is
a little hesitant. I have to play with the throttle a
little to keep it started-once started, runs smoothly. I
disassembled the starter set/鈥漜hoke鈥?(took the plungers and springs
out and inspected everything)--seems fine. I've even
run some carburetor
cleaner through a tank of gas. When the bike is idling
normally and I engage the enrichment circuit, the RPMs
increase to about 5000; then, within a matter of about
3 seconds, they decrease to its normal idle
speed. When I immediately engage the circuit again,
the RPMs race only to
about 2000. I can see that the enrichment circuit is
fully engaged each time. Could this be an idle mixture problem, if so, the prognosis?

I can't say for sure because I haven't had a Radian apart before, but, on many bikes the enrichening curcuit also has tiny jets pressed into the float bowls. The little straw that extends down from the enrichening curcuit chamber usually goes into a hole on the side of the bowl. At the bottom of that hole are pressed in brass jets. The only way to clean them is to pull the bowl and poke them with fine wire and spray through them with carb cleaner until they are clear.
It could be that you only have one or two plugged up. Next time you start your bike cold touch the pipes with your hand to see if they heat up evenly. If one or two pipes stay colder longer it could be the starter jets for those carbs are plugged.

GB
does this bike have a throttle lock? mine has a thumbwheel under the throttle to lock it in. that way i can set the rpm's when it first starts up; i usually have it close to 2k rpm's for about a min or 2, then start to slowly feed in the choke.
carb's are fickle in chilly weather, especially up here in the north. under 40, my bike wants to be a pita also. 40 or over, it starts on the 1st press of the button.

just for grins, pull the plugs and see how they are. if their a golden tan, the mix is good. coal black is too rich, paper white is too lean. this bike might run better on the + or the premium gas; mine prefers premium for best power. let the bike run a tad bit longer in full choke, then slowly feed it in.
