Bike Pedals? |
I looking at buying clipless pedals but don't know what I should get. I don't really care about weight as much as stiffness and power transfer. I've looked at shimano, keo and time and was wonder which ones the best? Go online and check out the new edition of Bicycling Magazine they have an article on the basics of cycling gear. They recommend to save your money and buy cheap pedals since basically they are all the same IE go to performance bike or Nashbar and buy the cheap knockoffs. Then take your time and pick out really good shoes since thats what will make a bigger difference. I have to agree on this because I have some Perfomance pedals on my Merlin and they are actually better than the Looks on my Colnago (lighter and less of a pain to adjust tension) I like the Look (Keo) system because it has the largest contact surface for power transfer. I don't like the SPD system because it has the smallest surface. Shimano also makes road pedals that are Look knock-offs. A friend of mine who has them tells me they are indistinguishable from Looks. I've got no experience with Speedplay or Crank Bros, but people I've met who have them tell me that they love them. I have heard some people complain about small contact surface with Speedplay. Look at Crankbrothers which have some good options. I've had Shimano 520 wich are a very good all arounders, then I went to Shimano 647, which are kool because they have a large cage or platform around the clip, albeit they are a bit heavy. I'm trying some Crank Bros Candies. The first bog-standard clip-less pedal, however exceptional price, is the Shimano SPD M520 for 拢29.99 which is $59.30. Shimano's original SPD system is the one against which all similarly designed pedals are judged. The M520 offers exceptional value and performance for money, and it's a tried and trusted design that works. However, its does frequently get clogged up with mud. Your question doesn't say whether you are riding a MTB or a road bike. Road bike or mtn? For either a road or MTB, get a set of Crank Bros. Eggbeater MXR's and you're sorted. |
